Use cases: Lenders & BNPL

Put your credit line on a card

Issue cards in your brand, approve each purchase against your own ledger in real time, and let a borrower's BNPL line work wherever Visa is accepted.

Your credit line stops at integrated checkouts

Checkout BNPL reaches borrowers only at the merchants you've integrated with. Each new merchant means another integration, another settlement file and another refund process, and a borrower with an approved line can't use it anywhere else. Lenders who pay out by bank transfer have a different problem: once the money lands, you can't see what it paid for.

With Moon, your platform runs its own card program: virtual and physical cards in your brand, issued and controlled through one API. When JIT authorization is enabled for your program, Moon sends each purchase to your system as it happens, and you approve or decline it against the borrower's available line in your own ledger. Cards don't need to be loaded in advance, and the line works wherever Visa is accepted.

If you already issue cards with another provider, add Moon as a second program for a new market or a new product. You can also load an approved loan onto a card, with your loan ID stored on it, so every transaction comes back tagged to the right loan.

What you can do

  1. 01

    Pay-anywhere BNPL card

Give borrowers a virtual card for online shopping and a physical card for stores, so their approved line works beyond your partner merchants.

  2. 02

    One card per approved purchase

Issue a virtual card when a purchase is approved, approve only that order against it, then close the card when the order is complete.

  3. 03

    Loans disbursed to a card

Load an approved loan onto a card from your prepaid balance, so thin-file and unbanked borrowers can spend it from day one.

  4. 04

    Working-capital cards for SMEs

Limit a business borrower's card to supplier merchant categories, so working capital is spent on what it was approved for.

  5. 05

Refunds back to the loan ledger

A merchant refund arrives as a webhook with the original transaction and your loan ID, so your ledger can reduce what the borrower owes.

  6. 06

    A program for each market

Run each country or product as its own organization under one account, with its own balance and cards, through the same API.

Wage advances and credit builders, on your own card

Earned wage access and credit-builder apps usually send money to someone else's debit card. Land it on a card in your brand instead, so members spend inside your app and every purchase is visible to you.

  • Advances on your card

Load an advance onto the member's card the moment it's approved, ready to spend right away instead of after a transfer to their bank.

  • Spending you can see

Webhooks report every purchase made with an advance, with the merchant and category, so your risk models see how advances are used.

  • Credit-builder spending

Pair your credit-builder product with a card in your brand for everyday spend, with limits by day, week or month that match each member's plan.

Why lending teams choose Moon

  • Approvals from your own ledger

With JIT authorization, your system approves or declines each purchase in real time with your own credit rules, such as the borrower's available line or a missed payment. Each card spends against the borrower's line, not a balance loaded in advance.

  • Beside your current provider

Keep the card program you run today and launch Moon next to it for a new market or a new product. Nothing has to migrate.

  • Your loan ID on every transaction

Store your loan or order ID as metadata when you create a card, and it comes back on every transaction and refund webhook. Daily reconciliation files give finance the full record.

  • Limits and fees you set

Cap monthly spend per card or per borrower, limit cards to merchant categories, and freeze or close a card from your own system. Cardholder fees are set by your program and can be zero.

Questions

Do we have to move our existing card program?
No. Run Moon as a second program beside your current card provider, for a new market or a new product such as one card per approved purchase. Your existing cards keep working as they do today. Moon cards carry your own borrower and loan IDs, so both programs can report into the same ledger.
How are purchases approved against our ledger?
When JIT authorization is enabled for your program, Moon sends each card authorization to your system as it happens. You check the borrower's available line, answer approve or decline within a second, and Moon applies your decision. Approved purchases and declines both reach you as webhooks, with the merchant, the amount and the decline reason.
What happens with refunds and returns?
When a merchant refunds a purchase, Moon sends a refund webhook with the original transaction ID, the amount and the loan ID stored on the card. Your ledger can then reduce what the borrower owes or restore their available line. Reversals arrive the same way, and daily reconciliation files cover every movement.
How do identity checks work for borrowers?
Send each borrower a link to Moon's hosted identity verification from your app, and a webhook tells you when their status changes. Tell us how you verify borrowers today, and we'll agree on the checks for your program during onboarding.
Where can we launch, and which licenses do we need?
Card programs can launch in the US, Latin America and Southeast Asia, and each market can run as its own program under one API. Cards are issued by Moon's partner financial institutions under their licenses, so you don't need a card-issuing license of your own. You stay the lender, so you keep the lending licenses each of your markets requires and you set the credit terms. We ask about your licenses during onboarding and confirm what's available in each country you lend in.
Can we start with a pilot?
Yes. Start with one loan product or one market, then add the others. Before any real money moves, the Sandbox runs the same endpoints as production: issue a card for a test loan, simulate an authorization, a reversal, a clearing and a refund, and check how your ledger handles each webhook.

Take your credit line beyond the checkout.

Tell us where you lend and what you run today, and we'll set up a sandbox for your team.
