Use cases: AI agents

Cards for AI agents, on your terms

Give each agent or task its own virtual card, then set budgets, add spending controls or approve each transaction, all through one API or MCP.

Handing an agent a card doesn't need to be all-or-nothing

Agents already book travel, order supplies, renew software and buy ads, and the teams behind them want to let them spend. Today that usually means handing an agent a person's own card or a shared company card: full access or none, with no way to tell a purchase someone wanted from one they didn't.

Moon lets your platform give every agent or task its own Visa virtual card, from your own card program, in your brand and through one API or MCP. Then you choose how much freedom each card gets: a budget by day, week or month, spending controls on where it can be used, or a person's approval on each transaction. Mix them across your agents, and change them as an agent earns more trust.

On an ask-first card, the agent sends a purchase intent with the merchant, the amount and a one-line reason, Moon emails the approver a one-time link, and only charges that match the approval go through. With real-time authorization enabled for your program, your system can also approve each charge against the agent's budget in your own ledger. Webhooks report every request, approval and decline.

What you can do

  1. 01

    Shopping and booking agents

Let agents buy train tickets, book hotels and order what people ask for, on their own cards, within the budget you set or after a quick approval. For stays and orders that charge in parts, one approval covers a budget at that merchant for the days you set.

  2. 02

    Procurement agents

Give a purchasing agent a card with a monthly budget for supplies, and route bigger orders to an ask-first card that a manager approves.

  3. 03

A card and budget for every agent

Run as many agents as you like, each with its own card and a budget by day, week or month, and see every agent's spend in one place.

  4. 04

    Approval for larger purchases

Keep a person in the loop where it counts: send purchases above an amount you choose through an ask-first card, and the approver answers by email or through an assistant they connected themselves.

  5. 05

    Global issuance

Are you a business or individual outside the USA? Power an agentic AI spend program not just in the USA but across Latin America, Asia and beyond.

  6. 06

    Research and testing

Point your agent at the Sandbox to issue cards, request purchases and simulate charges on the same endpoints as production, before any real money moves.

Why teams building agents choose Moon

  • Budgets, controls or approval

Choose how much freedom each agent gets: a budget by day, week or month, spending controls, or a person's approval on each transaction, card by card. The approver sees the merchant, the amount and the agent's reason before deciding.

  • Every charge checked in real time

Moon checks every authorization against the card's budget, controls or approval. A charge at a different merchant than approved, or over the amount, is declined at checkout instead of disputed later.

  • Agentic AI for individuals and businesses

AI cards can be issued to anyone who passes verification. Individuals, businesses or third-party clients can all be onboarded to authorize their own AI spend.

  • Made for agents to use

Agents issue cards, request purchases and read declines through Moon's MCP server, which hands over an ask-first card's number only for an approved purchase. Signed requests name the agent on the approval email, so you know which one asked.

Questions

Who approves a purchase, and how?
The cardholder, or the account that owns the card when it has no cardholder. Your agent sends a purchase intent with the merchant, the amount and a one-line reason, and Moon emails the approver a one-time link to approve or deny it, with no login. The agent's API key can ask but can never answer, so an agent can't approve its own purchase.
What if the agent tries to buy something different from what was approved?
The charge is declined. Moon matches every authorization against the approval: the merchant, and the amount within the tolerance you set, or what is left of an order's budget. The decline says the person approved something else and shows the merchant name the network actually sent, so the agent can ask again for the real purchase instead of retrying.
Can an agent spend within a budget, without asking each time?
Yes. Issue the agent a card without ask-first and give it a budget: a spend limit by amount per day, week or month, or over the card's life, and a cap on the number of purchases if you want one. Limits can sit on one card or across all of a cardholder's cards, so each agent keeps its own budget, and Moon declines any charge that would go over it.
Who holds the card?
Anyone who passes verification: an individual, a business or your platform's own clients. Each completes an identity check (KYC) or business verification (KYB) through Moon's hosted link, then authorizes their own agents' spend, so every card and every charge maps back to them.
Where can we launch, and which licenses do we need?
Card programs can launch in the US, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Tell us where your business and your cardholders are based, and we'll confirm what's available for your program before you build. Cards are issued by Moon's partner financial institutions under their licenses, so you don't need a card-issuing license of your own. When a store shows a price in another currency, the agent can send it as shown, and the approver sees it next to the amount in the card's currency.
Can we start with a pilot?
Yes. Start with one agent and one budget, see how purchases and approvals work for your team, then add more. Before any real money moves, the Sandbox runs the same endpoints as production and the MCP server works there too: your agent can issue cards, request purchases, have them approved and simulate charges and refunds.

Put your agents to work with cards of their own.

Tell us what your agents buy and how much freedom they should have, and we'll set up a sandbox around your flow.
