Use cases: Accounting firms

Put your firm's brand on client cards

Launch a Visa card program for your clients through one API, funded from each client's own balance, with every swipe reaching your firm as it happens.

Client card spend shows up at month-end

Your clients pay for software, ads, travel and supplies on cards from their bank or a card company. Your firm sees that spend weeks later, on a statement or a bank feed, then codes it, chases what's missing and closes the month. When you refer clients to another company's card, that company's brand is on it and the card relationship is theirs.

With Moon, your firm runs its own Visa card program, in your brand and inside your app, through one API. Each client can be its own organization with a separate balance, so its cards spend the client's own money and your firm never extends credit. Every authorization, clearing, refund and decline reaches you by webhook with the merchant, its category code and the references you set on the card, and daily reconciliation files cover each day's activity.

Moon brings the card issuing, the card network, identity checks for each client business and its cardholders, and disputes. Your firm keeps the client relationship and sets any cardholder fees, which can be zero.

What clients put on your card

  1. 01

    Software and subscriptions

Move each client's SaaS renewals onto a card tagged to that client and limited to software merchants. A charge from anywhere else is declined, not discovered at close.

  2. 02

    Ad spend

Give a client a card for its ad platforms with a monthly limit. Each charge reaches you as it posts, so ad costs land in the right month.

  3. 03

    Travel

Issue cards for a client's trips, each with its own spend limit, and freeze them when the team is back.

  4. 04

    Supplies

Limit a client's purchasing card to office supply and hardware merchants, with a monthly cap your firm changes through the API.

  5. 05

    Employee expenses

Give a client's staff their own cards with a limit per person. Spend arrives tagged to the employee, so you know who spent what without waiting for an expense report.

  6. 06

    Supplier bills

When a client approves a bill, issue a card for the exact amount with the bill number in its metadata. The supplier's charge comes back matched to that bill.

Why firms run their card program on Moon

  • Books current all month

Every swipe reaches your firm by webhook with the merchant, its category code and your own references. Code each charge when it happens, not at month-end.

  • No credit risk to your firm

Each client's cards spend that client's own balance, kept apart from every other client's. Your firm never fronts the money.

  • Your brand on every card

The cards carry your firm's brand and live inside your app. You keep the client relationship and set any cardholder fees.

  • The card work is handled

Moon brings the issuing, the card network, client verification and disputes. Your team stays focused on clients and their books.

Questions

We already refer clients to a free corporate card. Why add our own?
Keep referring clients who only want a card. Moon is for a card inside your own product: in your brand, funded from each client's balance, with every transaction coming to your firm. The two can run side by side.
We're accountants, not a bank. What would we have to run?
Moon brings the card issuer and bank partner, the card network, identity checks for client businesses and cardholders, and disputes. Your firm decides which clients get cards, sets limits and any fees, and keeps the client relationship. Your developers connect it all through one API.
We audit some of our clients. Can we offer them the card?
Firms that perform audits, reviews or other attest work for a client should check their professional rules before offering that client a financial product or earning fees from it. Settle which clients the program is open to with your own advisers before launch. Your firm decides which client organizations get cards, so it can leave any client out.
How does card data get into our clients' books?
Every authorization, clearing, refund and decline arrives by webhook with the amount, the merchant, its category code and the metadata you set on the card, such as a client ID or GL code. Daily reconciliation files cover each day's activity. Your team posts it into the accounting software your clients use; Moon does not sync to accounting software directly.
Where can we launch, and which licenses do we need?
Card programs can launch in the US, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Tell us where your clients are based and we'll confirm what your program can offer them. Cards are issued by Moon's partner financial institutions under their licenses, so you don't need a card-issuing license of your own, and your firm keeps the professional licenses it already holds.
Can we start with a few clients?
Yes. Start with a handful of clients, see how they use their cards, then offer the program to the rest. Before any real money moves, your team can set up test client organizations in the Sandbox, which runs the same endpoints as production, and build your ledger sync against the same webhooks you'll receive live.

Give your clients a card with your name on it.

Tell us how many clients you serve and what they spend on, and we'll set up a Sandbox for your team.
